What can I say about my special friend celebrating her special day? I can say she is an amazing mother who sees each of her children as a complete, unique human being. I can say she is incredibly aware of the world around her and is conscientious, questioning the status quo. Both, in my opinion, are the highest compliments. But today I am thinking about who this favorite friend is to me.
She is the friend I would have had, even in elementary school, had I been lucky enough for our paths to cross. I feel like we should have been neighbors. We would have ridden our bikes to each others' homes. Together we would have found the joy in the freedom to be allowed to ride to the corner store to buy a piece of candy (the kind with processed sugar and artificial flavoring!). We would have challenged each other to ride faster and hit all the big bumps in the road. I can imagine us lying in a field, looking up at the clouds chatting about nothing in particular, or about everything important. I think it must be possible that we did these things as sisters in a past life. The comfort she brings me must surely be similar to that which a sister brings to one.
My comfort friend still goes on adventures with me in this lifetime. She isn’t afraid to stay at the park a little too long. She isn’t afraid to try a new idea, to read a new book, to taste a food that we can’t pronounce. And my comfort friend doesn’t need the whole story because she accepts everything about me just as I am. Such is my fireagate comfort friend.
